Manager of Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) – Whitehall, MI

Our client, a premier international manufacturing leader, is seeking an experienced Manager of Occupational Health and Safety to oversee safety operations at their large-scale production facility in Whitehall, MI.
This role is ideal for a strategic leader who thrives in high-volume manufacturing environments and excels at mentoring safety professionals. You will join an EHS team of eight, directly managing two safety specialists, and overseeing OHS programs for a workforce of over 2,000 employees.
Key Responsibilities
• Strategic Leadership: Align corporate OHS goals with local site strategies; lead continuous improvement initiatives for all safety policies.
• Team Management: Direct, develop, and mentor a local team of OHS professionals.
• Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as the SME for plant leadership regarding federal, state, and local OHS regulations.
• Compliance & Auditing: Lead OHS audits and inspections, developing and executing robust remediation plans.
• Regulatory Liaison: Build and maintain proactive relationships with regulatory agencies.
• Safety Culture: Drive employee training programs focused on Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) and compliance.
Minimum Requirements
• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in EHS, Chemical Engineering, Business, Industrial Management, or a related field.
• Experience: 5+ years of EHS management experience within a manufacturing environment.
• Metrics Driven: Proven track record of using leading and lagging KPIs to successfully lower health and safety metrics.
• Leadership: Demonstrated success in managing OHS/EHS staff and fostering a Behavior-Based Safety culture.
• Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
• Location: Must reside in or commute to Whitehall, MI (Relocation assistance available).
Preferred Qualifications
• 10+ years of EHS management experience in manufacturing.
• Professional Certification (e.g., CSP, ASP, CIH, GSP, COSS, MSP, or CSD).
