Job Description

Position Overview

Fluet is seeking a temporary, full-time Legal Assistant to join our litigation team, providing critical support for our attorneys in employment law cases, with particular focus on Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB) proceedings and federal administrative matters. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. This position is hybrid with the expectation of being on-site at our Tysons, VA office 3-4 days per week.

Core Responsibilities

  • Draft and prepare legal documents including pleadings, briefs, motions, and discovery materials while ensuring compliance with court rules and procedures, particularly for the MSPB and federal courts
  • Provide comprehensive litigation support including document organization, exhibit preparation, witness coordination, and in-courtroom assistance for hearings and depositions
  • Manage case deadlines, maintain accurate records, and track billable time while ensuring all filings and submissions meet required timelines
  • Collaborate with attorneys and staff to conduct fact investigations, organize case files, and support client communications while maintaining strict confidentiality
  • Conduct legal research using LexisNexis/Westlaw and prepare memoranda summarizing findings on case law, regulations, and legal opinions for attorney review on an as-needed basis

Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree, Bachelor’s degree, or paralegal certificate
  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant Legal Assistant experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment
  • Civil litigation experience
  • Familiarity with federal courts, their procedures, and e-filing
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Commitment to maintaining strict confidentiality and exercising sound judgment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with federal administrative agencies, such as the MSPB
  • Experience using NetDocuments
  • Experience with legal research databases (LexisNexis or Westlaw)
  • Previous experience in employment law matters
