We’re a values-driven solo practice built on integrity, personalized service, and respect for families; we’re looking for a part-time Legal Assistant to help us grow while upholding those standards.
Position Summary
This is an entry- to mid-level position supporting a growing solo practitioner. The role offers hands-on experience, mentoring, and opportunities for advancement as the firm expands.
· Schedule: ~20 hours per week, flexible hours within agreed upon core availability with potential opportunity for hybrid-remote work
· Pay: $21–$24/hour
· Growth: Opportunity for additional hours and potential transition to full-time within 12 months as business needs demand
· Location: Grand Rapids, MI (weekly local travel for filings, meetings, or errands)
Key Responsibilities
· Draft and prepare correspondence, memoranda, proofs of service, notices, and other court filings
· Review, proofread, and edit legal documents for accuracy and formatting
· Communicate professionally with clients, attorneys, and courts via phone, email, and fax
· Maintain client files and case records; manage attorney calendar and deadlines
· File documents with courts and handle incoming/outgoing mail
· Conduct client and witness interviews or meetings
· Perform data entry, form creation, and other administrative support tasks
· Provide general office assistance and other duties as assigned
Qualifications
· At least 1 year of administrative experience in a busy office setting (law firm experience preferred but not required)
· High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred
· Strong writing, grammar, and proofreading skills
· Excellent customer service and communication abilities
· Professional composure when handling sensitive or emotionally charged matters
· Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat; experience with legal practice management software a plus
· Organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple priorities
