Job Summary

The Laboratory Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting laboratory operations by assisting technologists and scientists with various tasks related to experiments, sample analysis, and equipment maintenance. This position involves preparing specimens, setting up equipment, performing basic tests, maintaining cleanliness, and adhering to safety protocols in the laboratory. The Laboratory Assistant also assists with data recording, inventory management, and general laboratory support activities. Strong attention to detail, the ability to follow instructions, and a willingness to learn are essential qualities for success in this role. This position is ideal for individuals with a background in laboratory procedures and techniques who are looking to gain hands-on experience in a laboratory setting. 

Job Description:  

• Assist laboratory technologists and scientists in conducting experiments and analyzing samples 
• Prepare and set up equipment and instruments for laboratory procedures 
• Collect, label, and prepare specimens for testing 
• Perform basic laboratory tests under the supervision of a technologist or scientist 
• Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and work areas
• Follow standard operating procedures and safety protocols in the laboratory 
• Record and document experimental data accurately 
• Dispose of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with regulations 
• Assist with inventory management and ordering supplies 
• Provide general support to laboratory staff as needed 

Qualifications:  

• High school diploma or equivalent is typically required 
• Previous experience working in a laboratory setting is preferred
• Basic knowledge of laboratory procedures and techniques 
• Familiarity with laboratory equipment and instruments 
• Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision 
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Good communication and interpersonal skills 
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment 
• Willingness to learn and take on new tasks
• Adherence to safety guidelines and procedures
