We are currently seeking an Executive Underwriter, Construction Casualty to join our team, focusing on underwriting construction casualty accounts and contributing to the growth and profitability of our construction portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the regional production underwriter for construction casualty accounts, including new business and renewals, ensuring profitable growth and strong portfolio performance.
  • Underwrite construction casualty risks in accordance with underwriting guidelines, risk appetite, and strategic objectives. Assess exposure and coverage needs, perform detailed risk analysis, and establish terms, pricing, and structure.
  • Build and manage a profitable book of construction casualty business by maintaining and developing strong relationships with retail and wholesale brokers across multiple markets.
  • Conduct regular broker and client meetings to promote HDI’s capabilities, solicit new business, and enhance submission flow.
  • Perform pre-renewal reviews to confirm alignment with pricing strategies, risk appetite, and underwriting terms.
  • Manage the complete renewal underwriting process, ensuring timely decisions and responsiveness to brokers and clients.
  • Respond promptly to broker and client inquiries, including requests for quotes, coverage, endorsements, and loss information, delivering outstanding service and responsiveness.
  • Participate in the development and execution of strategic underwriting initiatives and projects that support department goals.
  • Collaborate with other internal departments, including Claims, Risk Engineering, Actuarial, and Operations, to ensure integrated solutions and seamless execution.
  • Actively support cross-marketing efforts within the HDI Specialty Division by identifying opportunities for additional product placement across lines.
  • Continuously update product and market knowledge through training, industry research, and professional development opportunities.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of commercial casualty insurance with a focus on construction-related exposures, including general liability, auto, and excess liability.
  • Advanced underwriting skills with the ability to assess complex construction operations, contractual risk transfer, and loss trends.
  • Financial and actuarial fluency with experience analyzing financial statements, rating models, and claims data.
  • Ability to develop creative and customized coverage solutions that balance competitiveness and profitability.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and experience managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills. Comfortable presenting to brokers, clients, and senior leadership.
  • A service-oriented mindset focused on delivering quality outcomes and strengthening client/broker relationships.

Additional Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of commercial casualty underwriting experience, preferably with a focus on construction accounts or complex casualty placements.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage a book of business and drive profitable underwriting results.
  • College degree and/or insurance designation (e.g., CPCU, ARM, AU) preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and experience using underwriting platforms or CRM tools.

Compensation

The base salary range for this position is $150,000-$220,000 plus eligibility for a performance-based annual bonus. Actual compensation will be based on experience, education, and location.
