Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Vocational Trucking Dispatcher to manage daily scheduling and coordination for our fleet of dump trucks and slinger trucks. This role involves overseeing 15-20 drivers in our Indianapolis location, collaborating with our Lafayette department for cross-support, and ensuring smooth operations in a high-stakes department. The position requires standard office hours of 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM daily, with one flexible "late" day per week to oversee driver check-ins at the end of the day—particularly important for building rapport with our drivers if you're new to GCI. The ideal candidate brings dispatch experience, industry knowledge, and established relationships to enhance efficiency and revenue generation.

Key Responsibilities

• Schedule and dispatch 15-20 drivers for dump truck and slinger truck routes in the Indianapolis area, optimizing for efficiency, load requirements, and timelines.
• Coordinate with the Lafayette department to provide or receive support, including dispatching Lafayette trucks on days when they operate in Indianapolis.
• Monitor driver progress, handle real-time adjustments for delays, breakdowns, or route changes, and ensure compliance with DOT regulations and safety standards.
• Communicate effectively with drivers, clients, and internal teams via phone, radio, or dispatching software to resolve issues and provide updates.
• Maintain accurate records of routes, driver hours, vehicle assignments, and performance metrics.
• Build and foster relationships with drivers to promote team cohesion, especially through on-site presence during the "late" day.
• Analyze dispatch data to identify improvements in routing, fuel efficiency, and overall operations.
• Assist in emergency response coordination and support peak-season demands.
• Adhere to all company policies, safety protocols, and industry regulations.

Required Qualifications

• Proven experience in dispatching, preferably in trucking or logistics.
• Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to interact with drivers and cross-department teams.
• Proficiency in dispatching software, GPS tracking systems, and Microsoft Office suite.
• Ability to work standard hours of 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM daily, plus one "late" day per week (flexible based on operational needs).
• High school diploma or GED preferred; additional education is welcome but not required—this role prioritizes hands-on experience.
• Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

• Dispatch experience specifically in the vocational trucking industry (e.g., dump trucks, slinger trucks, or construction-related fleets).
• Established professional relationships within the industry that can benefit GCI's operations.
• Knowledge of local routes in Indianapolis and Lafayette areas.
• Familiarity with regulatory compliance (e.g., FMCSA, hours-of-service rules).
