Position Summary

Weill Cornell Medicine's Division of Cardiology is seeking a Clinical Nursing Director to provide clinical and operational oversight across multiple outpatient general cardiology clinics.

The Clinical Director is responsible for managing the daily clinical and administrative operations across one or more outpatient or ambulatory care clinics. This role ensures high-quality, patient-centered care by overseeing nursing staff, optimizing clinic workflows, coordinating schedules, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and organizational standards. The Clinical Director collaborates with providers, administrative leaders, and interdisciplinary teams to enhance patient access, safety, and satisfaction while driving operational efficiency and clinical excellence in an outpatient or ambulatory setting.

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 5 days per week

Job Responsibilities

  • Functions as key clinical and administrative leader and communicates regularly with physician leadership, senior administration, and staff.

  • Oversees development and execution of the vision for nursing practice, care delivery systems, and processes across the practices and multiple modalities.
  • Develops, reviews, and revises policy in accordance with regulatory and professional standards of care.
  • Fosters a culture of collaboration across practices and programs to promote constructive dialogue and alignment of divisional/departmental and organizational goals.
  • Coordinates daily clinical care and supports activities of the outpatient or ambulatory practice, which may include diagnostic services. Maintains flow of patient care, delegates appropriate tasks to nurses.
  • Provides general patient care services, triages patient inquiries, provides patient education, communicates test results, pre-testing instructions, and testing/imaging expectations on day of exam.
  • Collaborates with clinicians regarding assessments and treatments. Ensures that all clinical equipment is properly checked and maintained, and logs are kept up to date, including AED, emergency medications, oxygen tanks.
  • Supervises various clinical nursing teams. Orients and trains all new clinical employees, evaluates staff performance, and develops corrective action plans as needed.
  • Develops and provides in-service training to nursing staff on new nursing techniques, protocols, procedures, or new equipment.
  • Ensures clinical staff compliance with annual compliance requirements. Ensures that nursing staff’s licensure and certifications are maintained and current as required by regulatory agencies.
  • Responsible for monthly nursing staff schedules, time sheet approvals, and paid time off approval requests. Reviews daily staffing schedules to ensure optimal staffing to manage patient flow.
  • Develops reports and metrics to monitor clinical nursing staff performance and address inconsistencies as needed.
  • Conducts monthly nurse staff meetings; meets with nurses individually to review performance metrics; organizes monthly nursing educational series/sessions.
  • Maintains current knowledge of quality and safety standards for an ambulatory or outpatient physician practice setting. Monitors levels of quality of service as measured by satisfaction surveys, customer comments, and direct observation.
  • Recommends strategies that are responsive to quality-of-service needs. Collaborates with the Quality and Patient Safety (QPS) Physician Leader in managing all clinical quality and safety issues and initiatives.
  • Responsible for other special projects and duties as assigned.

Education

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing for Registered Nurse candidates
  • Master’s of Science Degree in Nursing for Nurse Practitioner candidates

Experience

Approximately 5 years of clinical experience as an NP in a hospital setting or physician office practice required.

RNs with extensive clinical and clinical leadership experience can be considered. Extensive experience as a Registered Nurse may be considered in lieu of the BSN.

  • Proficiency with clinical and administrative technologies, including scheduling systems, EHRs, and reporting tools.
  • Ability to maintain high standards of patient care, ensuring safety, quality, and patient satisfaction.
  • Ability to facilitate change, including implementing new processes, technologies, or care models.
  • Ability to think strategically while managing day to day operational details, balancing short term needs with long term goals.

Licenses and Certifications

  • For NP candidates: NYS Registered Nurse Practitioner (NP) license and current NP registration
  • NYS Registered Professional Nurse license and current RN registration
  • Current BLS (must be issued by American Heart Association)
  • Infection Control Certificate
  • Current Narcotics DEA registration certificate
  • Applicable National Board Certification (such as ANCC, PNCB, etc)
